At our school we endeavour to develop the whole child and part of that development relates to co-curricular activities.
We offer a number of sporting and cultural activities, together with a series of education opportunities outside the classroom.
Students have the opportunity to participate in cultural activities such as school concerts, assembly items, singing, visual art and dance. We can connect you to providers of music lessons in the community as additional options.
Throughout the year students are invited to join the Kapa Haka group.
Te Reo Māori me ngā tikanga Māori (Māori language and culture) is integrated into all learning areas.
Please contact the school if you are available to assist in any cultural activities, we always welcome your support and expertise.
Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) is an important part of school life at our school.
The interactions that take place while students are involved in learning outside the classroom are rich opportunities for implementing many aspects of the NZ Curriculum.
The experiences students have together beyond the classroom are important not only because of the learning that occurs for each individual student but also for the shared experience that teachers can draw on afterwards for further learning opportunities.
Welcome to our library
‘You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back, relax, all you need is a book.’ Dr Seuss
The school library is used by all students. Each class has weekly library time so that books can be exchanged. Late notices are issued for books that are overdue after a two week period. If books are lost, a charge may be made so replacement books can be purchased.
We encourage children to develop a love of books and to take great care of them. A library bag helps with the care of books as it keeps them dry and clean, especially when transporting them home and back to school.
If the grounds are wet it is a good idea for the children to bring a change of clothes.
Yr 6 students have the opportunity to qualify for a 4 person West-a-Maths where they compete against other schools answering 20 quesitons in a 30 minutes.
We have many sporting opportunities for students at Kaniere School. All ages groups compete in cross country and athletics at school level. From here Yr 5-6 students may qualify for Districts and West Coast and then Canterbury.
Yr 1-3 students have a swimming demonstration at the end of their swimming block and Yr 4-6 students compete at school swimming sports with the top Yr 5-6 students heading to districts. From here some students will qualify for West Coast Swimming and maybe Canterbury.
Yr 5-6 students have other sporting opportunities/festivals including cricket, soccer, korfball and rip rugby.
